January 2012 Atlanta Gift Show

We had a great time at the Atlanta Gift Show a couple of weeks ago. Thank you to all of you that stopped in and also to all of you who ordered at the Show.

As you may have seen in my last post, what I was walking into indicated we had a lot of work to do to be "show ready".

Well, here are some shots of how it all turned out:

Those are taken from the hallway outside our showroom.

There are always things that can be improved. As I look at these pictures, my first thought is that I need to take photography lessons. :) Then I also should adjust some lighting and pick around at some of the displays. Either way, we are in much better shape and look a ton better than we did last year.

We are so pleased to be in our own showroom and with products that we are proud to sell. The quality of the product is so important to be able to offer to you, our customer. We promise to uphold a high standard when it comes to our products.

Unless I come across some other GREAT examples of decorating for Halloween... I promise I am going to move on to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our first container is coming in tomorrow and we will be crazy getting out the most anticipated orders to all our customers over the next few days. Then my mind will be 100% Christmas-thinking....Be aware... Christmas is only 66 days away! Lots to do!

Our Summer Events....

We adopted a "puppy"....Ceci...

And she grew into a dog....

The kids went to a whole slew of camps... not one picture did I take... bad Mommy.

We made a trip to the Boston Aquarium and were "wowed" by the sea life....

Stayed at this beautiful house in New Seabury, Cape Cod for a week. We had 7 days of sun and fun. Spent the week visiting with friends, college roommates and family! We could not have ended the summer in a better way!

Now, I have 6 days to get school uniforms, haircuts, school supplies, help everyone finish the reading requirements.. etc., etc., etc.....

Then, the real relaxation starts when routine and bed times come back. Woo Hoo!!

Ohh... and then 16 more weeks until Christmas!!!! .... back to reality and working for a living....

Lots of hustle and bustle here in Atlanta!

Even though my shoes are tight, my feet hurt with blisters, and I am "dog-tired".. I still love the excitement and energy here in Atlanta at the Mart!

I went to an awesome seminar today by Cortney Novogratz from HGTV and she spoke about her journey and lessons learned while flipping properties. One thing that stood out, was her enthusiasm and constant reminder to think outside the box and in a fun way. Don't always do the tradional decorating solution.

Our 50% off Closeout Sale is going very well and we are well on our way to have one division of our

nutcrackers behind us and able to welcome our new products into our showroom for January 2012.

"Today we celebrate, our country, the United States of America, and all who have served our country to keep us safe."

This was my speel this morning to my 3 girls~ ages 7, 9, and 10. They think today means the beginning of summer, "shorts weather", cake and pop for the day. Oh, and a day off from school. This actually has been a 4 day weekend of picnics and red, white and blue. And everyday, we are trying to take a moment to think of all those who have served us and our country.

There are many ways to decorate and celebrate for the holiday!

Summer IS coming, I think!

This is a favorite picture of mine... I use it as one of our company logos and it helps me to feel like the summer months are coming.... we think. We have had so much rain and gray skies... basements are flooding, soccer and baseball games and practices have been cancelled for weeks on end, there is mud everywhere....uugghh!

The bluebird is supposed to signify that Spring is coming.. I think Spring may have forgotten to visit this year.

This Whale ornament helps me think that our Cape Cod vacation and summer are right around the corner... maybe we will take the kids whale watching this year. Either way, hopefully, Summer is on it's way...

The Lilac Festival, Rochester, NY

The Lilac Festival is our first festival of the summer season.

Rochester and visitors, around the country, flock to the hills of Highland Park for 10 days each May to smell the lilacs, listen to great music and eat great food.

They say, the colder and rainier the Spring, the better the Lilacs will be. We sure have had our share of that!...There is even a perfume named after this beautiful flowering tree/bush.

Fa La La and Hi to all......

My name is Natalie Sarabella.

I have been creating my designer ornaments since 1994. As many of my friends and fans know, I have created a new line of fun and affordable ornaments.

My most favorite, and the newest to the line, are my Bauble Heads that are available at The Whitehurst Company, LLC.

There are several different baubles that come from all different walks of life. They are the perfect "Girlfriend Gift" for birthdays, special accomplishments and achievements, hostess gifts, etc. for all the special women in our lives. May has brought so many things. First, of course, was my Birthday. I say that with a smile. And, of course, we all know the armed forces have put to rest the search and capture of our #1 enemy. Therefore, I am celebrating with featuring the "OUR HERo" as the "FAV Of The Month". She is the GI that is dedicated to all of our soldiers both Men and Women. I also have a "HE-ro" version as well as the cleverly named "HERo". So, let's all salute the USA and all our soldiers for keeping us safe.

Hello, my name is Thelma of Thelma L.Hamilton Designs.

I have been painting ornaments for almost 25 years now. I have a regular line of ornaments I paint with personalization for my website, fundraisers and Etsy customers. However, sometimes I do have requests to paint "One of A Kind" ornaments. This can be very interesting! My special requests have included pictures of people's homes and businesses on the ornaments. (This is a challenge as the houses are straight lined and the ornaments are round). My most interesting special request so far has been to paint a picture of Flying Monkeys for a someone's boss.

The most rewarding ornaments I have painted have been for fund raising. Missionary groups that have traveled to South America, Libraries have requested paintings of books, adult care and day care facilities have also benefited from the sales of my ornaments. I have sold ornaments that have been shipped to Paris, Vienna, Scotland, Argentina, Germany, Japan and Canada to name a few.

I am blessed to have found The Whitehurst Company. The ornaments they provide me to paint on are of amazing quality and that has allowed my business to grow and flourish for almost 25 years.

Opening Day of Golf Season!

To my chagrin, the Golf Season has begun!....Opening Day on the links was yesterday.

To my husband... it means ~ days upon days of hanging out with his guy friends, out in the sunshine, enjoying some cocktails and nice lunches or snacks, etc., etc., etc.

To me....... it means ~ it is basically the last time I see him on a Wednesday, and at least one day on the weekend, and any other day the sun may be shining! LOL

Hopefully, Mother's Day "weekend" will be an exception. We will see!

On the Water....

We just received confirmation our products are "on the water" WooHoo!

"On the water.".. could refer to a variety of scenarios... it could be a Nautical or Seaside houseboat... "on the water", or it could be the song or a sunset.. ."on the water", but to us in the Gift Industry ... it is such a nice and welcoming phrase to hear that our products are on the way! There are many times toward the end of the season, we are holding our breath that the products come into port in time to ship to customers. So we are so excited to be able to say... our shipment is "on the water".

Our newest line of products... Zim's ~ The Elves Themselves are "on the water" and making their way to the United States for the first time in a number of years. These Elves have been out of production and will be back in stores for the Fall/Christmas 2011 holiday season. This is all very exciting to us and to the customers awaiting to decorate their stores for the holidays.

Update on our Art & Whimsy Fundraiser

Our glass ornaments (two shades of pink) were embellished with ribbons for Breast Cancer Awareness. These ornaments were sold at a local fundraiser for The Pluta Cancer Center.

This display is very versatile and can be used for any occasion or holiday. Enjoy this display in shades of blues and greens for the Summer/orange, black and browns for the Fall and greens and reds for Holiday months. Or a long lasting display is to match the colors to the decor in your dining room or living room and place on your buffet table. Keep it fresh with colors of the season.

The Royal Wedding!

Is Everyone blogging about this or is it just me? Silly question!

My girls and I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to watch the much anticipated Royal Wedding...

We made tea (with lots of milk and sugar) and drank out of the "good" china... so fun and special. I am so disappointed in myself for not taking a picture of the girls (age 11, 10 and 7) on this fun day ~ sitting at the kitchen table, drinking tea out of real china teacups and watching the Royal Wedding..

Luckily, we taped all SIX hours of the coverage to watch, again and again. Not sure how many times we will drink tea with it, though.

The wedding ended just in time to get to school for the bell to ring.

Chasing Rainbows....

How lucky are we...? A beautiful rainbow for the second day in a row. Yesterday we saw the whole arch and today this was our view outside our front door. What does this mean? This beautiful color spectrum twice - could it possibly mean that Spring is finally here... maybe my Bluebird of Happiness post helped...LOL.

Hopefully, it means a lot of good things to come for our family and friends... in health, happiness and prosperity. Either way, it gives us a "ray" of hope and excitement for the season ahead!

Bluebird of Happiness!

The bluebird represents many things in all aspects of our lives. I thought it was most appropriate to look up, as Spring is still coming..(we are still having snow every once in awhile in Rochester, NY)

Many people know the saying, "The Bluebird of Happiness", which is my favorite. So, when I googled: "What does a Bluebird represent?", the following interesting tidbits came up:

~The Bluebird represents happiness, fulfillment and confidence.

~They represent great fertility in women.

~The Bluebird can, at times, be known to represent times of war.

~A "Bluebird Opportunity" is an opportunity that comes out of nowhere and closes unexpectedly.

Originally, bluebirds meant many things to the sailors of long ago. When a bluebird was seen at sea, it would mean you were close to land. If your ship went down, sailors believed a bluebird would fly over your ship and carry your soul to heaven.

Hippity, Hoppity, Easter's on its Way!

~perfect color house for Spring and Easter Dinner~....

This is the place where most of our family dinners take place. We love entertaining and having our family and friends over. Each year on Good Friday, our family gathers to color and decorate Easter eggs.

The most unique and decorative egg with the most applause wins the yearly contest. On average there are over 30 entries across the mantel. At the end, Grandma hands out bags of jelly beans wrapped perfectly in bags with beautiful bows...

Here are a few ideas for Easter and/or Spring displays. Lots of ideas for a centerpiece or side table decoration.

Outdoor or indoor nest display.... purchase nest at local craft store and add pastel glass ornaments

Fill glass vases and apothocaries with Spring colors of glass ornaments

I purchased this adorable pot at a local florist, added fresh pussy willow branches as a handle and then placed a small plant inside. I hung glass egg ornaments around the pot.

Add pastel glass ornaments to branches found in the yard. This also makes a nice centerpiece or table display. Fill it with as many ornaments as you wish. Add some Easter grass around the bottom too, for festive display.

It seems as if Breast Cancer has gone crazy lately. Good friends and family members are being diagnosed and we are all affected to some degree.

Last week, The Whitehurst Company participated in "In the Pink", a local fundraiser for Breast Cancer and the Musical/Opera Arts. The committee created these beautiful Breast Cancer Awareness ornaments and sold them to all the guests. The proceeds went to a local center, The Pluta Cancer Center. We donated the 3 1/4 inch glass ornaments in Pale Pink Pearl and Raspberry Pearl.

I will post a picture of the entire display when the committee forwards it to me. In the meantime, I wanted everyone to have a Day of Hope....

Trying out new Gadgets

I have to admit I am a little frustrated. I am loving the new enhanced version of blogger... but, I am stuck on this "Pages" gadget. I love the look and the idea, but am not understanding it fully. I would like to be able to click on my "Website" page and have it link directly to my website. Instead, I am linked to my "page" and then I click on my website address. Is this correct? Anybody? Bueller?

Anyway, I will go to lunch and try again after I relax a bit... I will welcome any comments or tutorials sent my way... thank you.

Please excuse any crazy blog posts.. I am working on updating the look and adding new features. In the meantime, there are things that are posting that I cannot delete!!! Call me crazy... and the kids will be home soon from school, so it may be tomorrow when I can work it all out..

We are also working on setting up an online direct ordering system... this working for yourself business is really challenging. At my JBK (job before kids) I had an IT person to fix whatever I needed.. now I have to figure it all out myself. AUUGGH!

Happy National Puppy Day!

Ironically enough, after school we are going to pick up this adorable little girl! My girls are so excited. We are driving 1 1/2 hours to see her for the first time and we get to bring her home today! We, the parents, are not sure what we are doing. The last time we did this was 14 years ago and before kids!

The girls on the other hand cannot stop talking about it and making promises up to the sky that they will take care of her, feed her, walk her, even get up in the middle of the night. My goodness, why should Tom and I be hesitant. They will be doing all the work. Yeah, right!

Anyway, enjoy your puppies today, big or small.

Spring is in the Air!

Spring is coming.. even though it is raining today, my 7 year old told me she can smell it! So funny!

So, I went to Michael's and bought this cute birds nest. Then I filled it with our glass ornaments in Robin's Egg blues and champagne colors. Added a few feathers and we have a spring decoration. So simple. Something easy to do and another way to decorate with glass ornaments all year long.

Hopefully, the sun is shining at your house this morning. If not, as my daughter assures us, Spring is coming!

Never did I know how lucky I would be when I married my husband, Tom. We have three beautiful girls and enjoy all our days together.

One of our favorite family traditions is going to the St. Patrick's Day parade each year. I decorate the house the week before and send out our party invitations.. we have everyone back to the house after the parade for a good old fashioned Irish day filled with food, drink and lots of Irish music... our favorite being "Green Alligators..."

The parade was last Saturday and it was a wee bit chilly, but sunny for the most part. We had a great spot to watch for Leprechauns and the parade too, of course. After the parade, the house was filled with lots of friends and families.. some ended up spending the night and we woke up to Lucky Charms and a big mess... we wouldn't change a thing..

So, as today is St. Patrick's Day... I am at work, not play. My Irish for today is our mascot..

Later, I will meet up with my husband and we will celebrate with Corn Beef and Cabbage at a local Irish Pub...

Happy Fat Tuesday! - Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras! Pick out your craziest colors and boas, play your favorite Jazz music very loud and cook up some good old fashioned creole for dinner......

Below is our version of a Lady at Mardi Gras created by Natalie Sarabella as a Baublehead for The Whitehurst Company. She is ready to join in the parade!

All the wonderful sights, sounds and smells of New Orleans are at its height today along Bourbon Street. We had the fun of visiting New Orleans during Mardi Gras awhile ago and saw some VERY interesting things!

The outdoor street bands playing Jazz were great... along with some other sites that may not be appropriate for this blog...but, either way... what a festive place to be.

Many of our customers purchase the Mardi Gras colors to decorate with for the holiday...this order came in last week and I am sure it was for Mardi Gras. Greens, Orange, Purples and Pinks are among the favorites...

A friend of mine, Darryl Moland of The Decorated Tree blog (http://www.thedecoratedtree.blogspot.com/) created this beautiful tree with very festive colors...check in on his blog and see his beautiful creations....

The possibilities are endless and the colors are so vibrant today for Mardi Gras!

New Seabury, Cape Cod.....

Here are some random pictures of our trip last year... yesterday I mentioned we decided on our week for this summer, but failed to mention the beautiful place we stay...

Maushop Village in New Seabury, Cape Cod

It is a perfect place for families to visit.. there is a Marketplace that you can walk to that has a Raw Bar, Ice Cream Shop, Grocery Store, gift shops, Bike Rentals, Miniature Golf and much, much more....New Seabury is a resort community that also has a beautiful golf course, a wonderful country club type restaurant and honestly, I cannot say enough about it.

We have been going there for 14 years now, with the exception of one year that I had just had a baby.

Going Coastal!

We are so excited!!.... We just mailed our deposit for our week in Cape Cod this summer at this beautiful cottage...Although it is so far away, I love to look at this picture and dream of the sounds and smells of the ocean... Which makes me also think that the buying season for all the shops Coast to Coast .. is in high gear to get ready for the Summer tourists that are about to embark on the towns near the oceans....

We have Solid Colored Glass in all the summer colors, including clear... many of our customers that craft, put sand and small shells inside the clear ornaments to make a fun summer display..

We also have our Oberfrankische German Glass in many styles of Nautical themed ornaments. My favorite thing to do on vacation is to purchase an ornament that will always remind us of our visit...

We also have many nutcrackers from Zim's with the Nautical theme ....perfect for those shops along the oceans edge...

Another favorite thing we do in Cape Cod is to take the Whale Watch tour with our cousins.. a long day on a boat, but nothing beats the view of such a large mammal so close to us..

So everyone needs to get out there and make their summer plans.. which should always include a day of walking into town and checking out the local gift shops...

Winter Break!

I took some time off from work this past week and spent it with my three girls... I think we had the busiest week ever! We had 2 of my girlfriends from college come in to visit with their kids for a few days. We went skiing, sledding, ate and had cocktails for 3 full days. We are exhausted. So many laughs and good times.. and I can't wait to do it all over again.

Although I am off from physically going in to work.. I am still working... sending out emails, blogging, tweets on twitter and making calls. So, while I am "off" from work I thought I would mention, the Bauble Heads above, by Natalie Sarabella. They are made from The Whitehurst Company's glass ornaments and embellished beautifully by Natalie.

This new line is perfect for the gift shops that need those quick hostess gifts. So many different styles with so much personality! One for each of my girls!

Happy Valentines Day - Weekend!

We found out today that any available tables for dinner reservations at restaurants in Rochester, for Saturday night, are few and far between. My husband tried to make dinner reservations for us on Saturday and we could not get in to our first three choices. Well, we could, but at 8:30 or 9:00 sittings. (In case you didn't know yet, the restaurants are considering Saturday to be "the" night for Valentines Day dinners.) Somehow, it all worked out and our first choice called us back and we are sitting for dinner at 7pm. Yeah!

The Atlanta Gift Show - January 2011

Welcome to our new showroom at the Atlanta Gift Show!

We are proud to open our showroom and be able to display all our products with the proper amount of space. The Whitehurst Company had been sharing space for the past year or so and we are thrilled to be able to spread our wings and stretch out. Comments, from visitors, such as: "Where have you been, we couldn't find you last year!" and "We are glad you are back!"- were so nice to hear.

Thank you to all of our customers that came to visit us and to all those that placed orders with us last week. We are looking forward to working with all of you.

Our showroom came about very last minute and was put together in a matter of days. Our samples were all sent- rush delivery- to our new space, along with tables, chairs, everything! Many of our samples arrived 3 days AFTER the show started, but it did all come together evenually. The weather finally cooperated, UPS started delivering again, and more buyers were arriving each day with stories of delayed flights, cancellations and ice storm woes.

Anyway, there it is.. although we still have some finishing touches to work on for the next shows in March and July, we are proud to call E-23 our own and hope you will come and visit us.

In 1994, Natalie Sarabella purchased her first blank ornament from The Whitehurst Company. As a new designer, she placed an order for the oversized glass ball and which helped her launch the Sarabella Creations line almost 20 years ago. Today, Natalie is back to introduce the "Bauble Heads".

These Bauble Heads are a 4 3/4 inch hand painted ornament that would fit any decor and match any personality throughout the year. Packing to Perfection

The New Year is upon us and many of us are starting to take down the holiday decorations.

My New Years' goal is to take as much time and perfection that I spent on putting up all the decorations, and use that in taking it down also.

My girlfriend is an inspiration and suggested the following ideas to stay organized and reduce the clutter:

1. Take down all the decorations and gather them in a central place, such as the dining room table.

2. Clearly label the boxes or containers with highlighters or sharpies. Label each box with item and location that you usually place it when decorating.

3. You do not need expensive organization boxes for this. Gather plain boxes, such as ones from the liquor store and utilize the dividers. This helps to protect the holiday decorations from all being thrown into one big box.

4. Before you begin to wrap and put away.. downsize a bit. Ornaments that may have a broken piece or no longer mean anything sentimentally, could be either tossed or donated. If it is really hard to let go of sentimental items, pack them all in one box and label them accordingly.
~ another idea is to create a separate box for each child and store all their ornaments in it.

5. Once the lights are pulled off the tree or from outside, wrap the lights around a piece of cardboard that specifically states, whether from the Christmas Tree or outdoor decorations.

How you sort, label and store your decorations can make a big difference in the amount of space needed to store them away and the amount of enjoyment in putting them up again next year.

Last Minute Ideas for Decorating..

Glass ornaments are not just for the trees anymore... they are for beautiful wreaths...

~or to add a punch of color with apothocary jars...

~to hang from the rafters, or at least the crown molding...

~or load them up on the mantel...

~ you could even hang them from the mantel....

~use as a party favor and/or a place setting...

~use as decorations to hang from the chandelier...

~ create a small mini tree for a corner or empty shelf....

~ use one or two colors to create a theme...

~OR~ top it all off as a tree topper... take the cap off and put over the top branch of the tree...

Although we are currently in the midst of our busy season with receiving in shipments and sending out orders... we also are starting to think about our 2011 season.

Decorating for Halloween..

Set up a Halloween Holiday tree in your dining room as a centerpiece or on the buffet. Another area could be a corner of the countertop in the bathroom or kitchen.

Very simple to get this look: First, I collected branches from the yard and spray painted them black. Then I collected all sizes and fall colors of glass ornaments, and placed them around the branches with pretty ribbon.
Very colorful and festive!

My Girls started school yesterday and today it is chilly! Back to school is always exciting. When the weather starts to turn, I am always ready to re-decorate my house with the Fall colors.

It is a donatation to : Artsy Mamas.. a benefit for the Bethany House.. which provides emergency housing and assistance for women and children in need.

My Yellow House

This is my Yellow House. Most times if someone is wondering where I live, my answer is usually, "The Yellow House". And people usually know. Although it looks pretty yellow, this picture is not giving the yellow color justice. It is truly a brighter yellow. You may even say 'highlighter yellow'.

Anyway, I wanted to show everyone a picture of our home because we recently came very close to leaving our yellow house. Someone wanted to buy our house, even though it was not for sale. We almost went through with the offer, but in the end our love for our home overrode the offer. And even though we are staying, we appreciate the compliment on our house.

I think my love of color intensified when we moved into our home four years ago. Although the outside was bright yellow, the inside walls were all high gloss white. This came with the exception of a few rooms with very retro wallpaper, that we happen to love. Anyway, I think it is ironic that I am now selling every color in the color wheel of glass ornaments and coordinating colors schemes for decorative tabletop trees. My inside walls are still high gloss white, with the exception of our dining room. We recently painted our dining room a deep chocolate brown. It is very sharp and sometimes even looks black or eggplant.

I hope you have enjoyed the picture of my house. My goal is to create a little portfolio of the rooms with coordinating groupings of the ornaments, after we paint or update each room. Let's see if I can keep up with my challange.

Weddings - this is the time of the year... in fact, we have 5 to attend this summer starting next weekend. A new blogging friend has posted about weddings and celebrating them, along with decorating and giving for the occasion using, my favorite subject, Christmas ornaments. The Decorated Tree (of Life)

My sister's wedding was in November and she put on the table for guests.. a beautiful glass ornament in the shape of a wrapped gift in gold and white.. It is a happy memory every year we place it on the tree.

So, long story short, a wonderful gift that is different and special for the Wedding couple to give is a Christmas ornament, or set, for their tree. Another idea is to give an assortment of sizes in the color they chose for their wedding.. for instance, Blue... all sizes from 1 1/4 inch up to a 7 inch ball in their color.

The end of May already!... I cannot believe the summer weather and celebrations are all starting this coming up weekend. Time to get out our Red, White and Blue and decorate our homes to celebrate our country and the summer months. Fill a large vase or glass bowl with red, white and blue glass ornaments or even red, blue and silver is a pretty combination too. Look in magazines and on other blogs for ideas. There are so many ways to use glass ornaments all year long and these holidays coming up are perfect opportunities. Enjoy celebrating with these patriotic colors.

Spring has sprung! Welcome to our Holidays Everyday Blog! We are excited to start out in the Spring season as that is when exciting new things happen.
